For a town the size of Newmarket it surprises me that there is no-where to buy refreshments or a newspaper at the train station.

Granted the station isn't the biggest, but it always seems to be busy so a shop would no doubt do a roaring trade - particularly when people are travelling to and from work.

Travellers at the moment have to wait until they reach Cambridge before being able to use a shopping facility.

What do you think? Would a shop at the train station prove a beneficial decision?

Most of the smaller stations in this area are rubbish, Must admit newmarket is the worst. The other day turned up to get a train to Bury. Taxi driver told me the trains weren't running that day 'signal problems'. Good job he was there or I would have been waiting there for hours with not a clue what was going on.

Wouldn't have been able to buy a paper either.

Totally agree with both posts. Communication in this area seems to be a MASSIVE issue at the moment. Most of the time no-one bothers to inform travellers that the train has been cancelled. And don't get me started on bus replacement services, or lack of.....

That happened to me!! Was going to work and I just sat there wandering why my train had not turned up - with no one to ask. Eventually the next scheduled train arrived and I was half an hour late! No apologies or anything.
