Protests to Prevent Waste Recycling Centre Closure Gathers Pace

Almost 2,000 people have showed their feelings towards the town council's decision to close the much used waste recycling facility by signing a petition demanding it remains in function.

People in Newmarket will soon be unable to recycle their waste in the town.
A large number of people, including Newmarket mayor Councillor Mick Jeffereys, have given their backing to the demostrations.
The decision to close the centre, which was made by town county councillor Lisa Chambers, was seen as a cost cutting one.
However, it has been suggested in recent days that some residents would be will to pay a small fee to use the site rather than see it no longer exist.
As mentioned in our earlier article on the site, the nearest centres for the people of Newmarket are in Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge - which would see residents incur the ever increasing fuel charges.
Cllr Chambers has also confirmed that the council are in talks with the charity group Newmarket Open Door about collecting waste for the residents.
What do you think of the proposed closure? Would you be willing to pay a small fee to use the service? Please let us know your thoughts below.

If Lisa is a 'good local lass' surely she would take on board what people living in Newmarket actually want !!

ReportAs this story rumbles on it appears a protest march is being planned for early April. Will you be taking part in the march? If so, let us know why.

Reportits not the fault of Lisa Chambers, she has to follow the advice of the staff at SCC who have been tasked to impliment the cuts. If it was not the Recycling centre then they would have to make savings from other services. Lets look at how we can recycle our waste in different ways and only use the Recycling centre at Mildenhall when we have to. It sounds like Open Door will deal with a number of items and the recycling banks at Tescos will deal with other bits. Come on Lisa is a local lass who cares for the town and its people, sometimes she has to support decission that other have taken!
