Newmarket Town Council have provided the town's recycling centre with a lifeline.

Suffolk County Council recently confirmed that in times of economic downturn, the centre was too expensive to run and would therefore be closing down later this year.

This would leave the residents of Newmarket no option but to travel to either Mildenhall or Cambridge in order to dispose of their recycling.

However, the town council has now pledged to make a financial contribution towards the running costs of the centre.

This news comes after more than 200 people joined a protest march on Saturday against the proposed closure of the centre.

An further announcement on the centre's future is expected shortly.

Did you take part in the march? Perhaps you have some photos you wish too share? Let Newmarketpeople know...

This shows peacfull protest does work. Looks like the council are starting to understand they can't expect people to be 'green' when they have to travel for miles to their nearest recycling centre.
