Two goals from Lee McGlone helped Hadleigh United leave the Cricketfield Road ground with all three points on New Year's Eve.

The striker gave visiting Hadleigh a half-time lead when he turned in a long throw from Jack Cawley at the back post after 14 minutes.

Hosts Newmarket Town came out for the second half in brighter fashion but they fell two goals behind courtesy of former Mildenhall Town striker Ben Deacon, who chipped the ball into from 40 yards in the 61st minute.

However, seven minutes later Newmarket reduced the arrears when Jason Lynch headed in a cross from George Darling.

As the Jockeys pushed forward to claim an equaliser they were hit on the break when McGlone converted into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

The result left Newmarket second from bottom in the Ridgeons Premier League table.
