Newmarket Police are linking up with retailers to help cut down the rising level of shoplifting.
There was 84 shoplifting offences committed between April and June of this year. This is compared to the 35 that were carried during the same time span in 2010.
As well as an increase in police patrols throughout the town, a scheme known as Shopwatch has also been launched.
Shopwatch is designed to help business owners communicate with each other and the police. CCTV footage and photo images can also be posted on to the Shopwatch website to raise awareness.
The system is already in place across other towns in the country and is working to good effect.
Are you pleased to see the authorities doing something about the levels of shoplifting?

Local shops must lose a fortune to criminals. It's great to see technology being used to help the excellent job done by security and police. Sadly we didn't have this in the 80's when I had a shop and was constantly on the lookout while trying to run a business. Great idea!
