Newmarket Schools Closed: Public Sector Strikes

Wednesday, November 30 will see the whole country gripped by planned public sector strikes.
What, though, is planned for Newmarket?
Across the United Kingdom a large majority of the schools will be closed for the day and Newmarket is no different.
Newmarketpeople has had confirmation from Scaltback Middle School and St Felix Middle School that they will not be opening next Wednesday.
Mrs Alison Swan, headteacher at Scaltback, told parents and guardians: "As you are no doubt aware, teaching and support staff unions have balloted their members regarding a national Day of Action to protest about proposed changes to public sector pensions.
"During the previous industrial action, staff attendance was sufficient to enable SMS to remain open. However, the indications at this stage are that, in the interest of the safety of our pupils, the governing body and I are obliged to take the decision to close the school for the day.
"I am contacting you now to give you time to arrange the care of your child(ren) for the day on Wednesday. In the unlikely event that we are able to change our plans and remain open, I will write to you again early next week."
Please keep checking back with us at NewmarketPeople for more news on what schools will be closing.
