Newmarket will soon be gaining a second SOS street bus.

The vehicle, which was previously a mobile classroom that visited a number of schools, has been donated by Suffolk County Council.

It has been given to the Newmarket Open Door charity and the Newmarket Community Partnership who aim to protect vulnerable people in Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds.

As well as the usual night time stints on the High Street, the new bus will also be used during the day. It will be used to promote recycling in the town, while also concentrating on a number of community projects.

Councillor Chambers told the Newmarket Journal: "I am delighted that we have been able to donate the bus to Newmarket Open Door. Its SOS bus will ensure vulnerable people have direct access to vital advice and support on their doorstep."

The bus will be manned by volunteers.
