Newmarket College Confirms Partial Closure

This afternoon Newmarket College has confirmed to us that a large majority of its teaching staff will be taking strike action next Wednesday.
As a result, the College will only be partially opened and only certain pupils are being asked to attend.
The College's Principal, Dr Robert Cadwalladr, explains: "I can now confirm that most teachers and some support staff will be on strike next Wednesday. Under these circumstances we will be unable to operate a normal curriculum with due regard to the health and safety of our young people.
"It has been a very difficult decision for every single member of our staff. The issues around the reforms of public sector pensions are very important and have profound implications for the future of all the staff working in schools.
"However, this is not a dispute with the College and certainly not with the students. We are all committed to their achievements and success and no-one has made the call not to come in easily."
Dr Cadwalladr also confirmed that a "limited number" of students will be invited in for classes.
The majority of these pupils will be sixth formers and year 11's, although some year 10 students may be called in.
To see if your child's name is on the list, keep a close eye on the College's website.
