Gritting Lorry Smashes into Burwell House

A gritting lorry smashed into two vehicles and a house in Burwell, near Newmarket earlier today.

The lorry had been out gritting secondary roads and was on its way back to the depot in Witchford when the accident in Toyse Lane occurred.

One of the vans that the lorry careered into had a man sitting inside. However, he escaped with only minor injuries as did the driver of the gritter.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire County Council told the Cambridge Evening News that the incident had nothing to do with poor conditions on the road.

"There is a police investigation underway to establish the cause of the accident which the county council will cooperate with in every way," said the spokesman.

Residents lost their Internet connection and television signal as a result of the crash after a cable box was damaged.
